Hello, I’m Tychera Mayfield, LPC
Before I ever became a therapist, I was the person who stayed strong for everyone else. I was the friend, the sister, the partner who kept going even when I was overwhelmed. I know what it feels like to push through while your inner world is quietly asking for a break.
That lived experience is a big part of why I do this work.
Therapy isn’t just what I do — it’s who I am.
I created Thrive From Within because I wanted to offer adults a space that feels honest, compassionate, and grounding… a space where you don’t have to “hold it all together,” minimize your feelings, or be the strong one all the time.
Here, you get to be human.
You get to breathe.
You get to pause and explore the parts of your life that have been weighing on you — without pressure, judgment, or shame.
My Mission
At Thrive From Within, my mission is to create a space where you can finally slow down, breathe, and reconnect with yourself.
I’m here to help you quiet the noise, soften the overwhelm, and navigate life with more clarity, confidence, and compassion. My work is rooted in the belief that healing isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about rediscovering the parts of you that have been overlooked, ignored, or buried under years of stress and responsibility.
Through gentle guidance, practical tools, and genuine connection, I support adults in building emotional strength from the inside out. Together, we uncover what’s holding you back, heal the wounds that keep resurfacing, and create a foundation for a more grounded, steady, and meaningful life.
My goal is simple:
To help you thrive—not by pushing harder, but by reconnecting with who you truly are.
Core Values
These values guide every part of the therapeutic space we create together:
- Authenticity: A space where you can be vulnerable, honest, and fully yourself — without having to perform or pretend.
- Compassion: Empathy without judgment. I meet you right where you are, emotionally and mentally.
- Empowerment: Helping you find your voice, set boundaries, and rebuild your confidence from the inside out.
- Growth: Progress doesn’t need to be big to be meaningful. Small steps matter, and I’ll celebrate them with you.
- Resilience: Together, we’ll strengthen your ability to adapt, heal, and thrive — even in difficult seasons.
Why Representation Matters
You’re not just looking for a therapist.
You’re looking for a space where the weight you’ve been holding — for your family, your friendships, your job, your community — can finally come off your shoulders for a moment.
You’re looking for a space where you don’t have to shrink yourself, explain yourself, or justify why something hurt.
You want a space where you can simply be.
As a Black female therapist, I understand the emotional layers that come with being strong, successful, and resilient while also managing the quiet exhaustion that no one sees. I understand the microaggressions, the expectations, the pressure to “hold it together,” and the emotional labor that follows you everywhere.
Many of the adults I work with — especially women — come into therapy feeling worn down by those very experiences. Together, we unpack them, process them, and create room for you to breathe again.
Representation creates safety.
Safety creates healing.
Healing allows you to reclaim yourself.
And that is the heart of Thrive From Within.
My Approach:
Therapy should feel human, grounded, and supportive—not clinical or overwhelming.
My approach is warm, relational, and collaborative. I show up as a real person in the room with you, someone who listens deeply, supports you with compassion, and also gently challenges you when it’s helpful for your growth.
This work isn’t about perfection. It’s about creating a space where you can show up honestly and feel supported as you figure things out.
Evidence-Based Care, Tailored to You
I integrate tools from CBT, DBT, ACT, and Solution-Focused Therapy, but I bring them into the session in a way that feels natural, human, and relevant to your everyday life.
You won’t get a worksheet thrown at you.
You won’t feel talked down to.
You won’t be expected to change overnight.
Instead, we’ll take strategies that actually work and apply them at a pace that honors your emotional capacity, your story, and your goals.
Client-Centered & Culturally Responsive Care
Your lived experience matters.
Your identity matters.
Your culture matters.
Therapy with me honors who you are and the layers you carry, including the ones that often go unseen or misunderstood. I take the time to understand your context, your history, and the expectations placed on you so the work we do together truly reflects your life.
Calm, Grounded Support
I focus on helping you build the kind of sustainable change that lasts long after our sessions end.
Together, we’ll work on things like:
- trusting yourself again
- setting boundaries without guilt
- rebuilding confidence
- quieting the internal pressure to be “the strong one”
- creating emotional balance
- finding clarity when everything feels heavy
This is about helping you feel grounded ,not just today, but in your everyday life.
Therapeutic Approach
How I Work
My style is warm, real, and collaborative. I’ll meet you with empathy, honesty, and presence, while also helping you stay connected to the growth you’re seeking. We are partners in this process . I’m not here to “fix you,” but to walk with you while you rediscover your strength and clarity.
This isn’t about quick fixes.
It’s not about toxic positivity. And it’s definitely not about pretending everything is fine.
It’s about showing up fully, doing the inner work gently, and making space for the pieces of you that haven’t had r&oom to breathe.
What to Expect in Therapy
Therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating, stiff, or awkward. With me, it’s a real conversation — grounded, honest, and at your pace.
When we begin:
- You don’t need the perfect words.
- You don’t need to have a full story prepared.
- You don’t need to know exactly what you want to work on.
We’ll start wherever you are.
If you feel lost or overwhelmed, I’ll guide you step by step until things start to feel lighter and clearer.
Our work will center on what matters most to you — whether that’s:
- setting boundaries without guilt
- processing emotional overload
- understanding anxiety
- rebuilding your sense of self
- healing from being “the strong one” your whole life
- or simply having a space where you can finally stop holding your breath
Therapy with me isn’t about fixing you because you are not broken.
It’s about creating a space where you feel safe enough to breathe, heal, and grow on your terms.
